The first quarter is almost past and we are well into a new year. Hopefully you are having a great year serving your clients. Recently I have been reminiscing about my career and pondering the passion I feel for our profession. I started in the business 25 years ago and have seen dramatic changes over that time. I remember well being given a stack of leads that had requested information from us and a phone and calling, calling, calling! I remember visiting with folks and trying to persuade them that they should buy a financial plan from me and that they should implement that plan with front loaded mutual funds, limited partnerships, and life insurance products—most of which were proprietary. I also remember that the CEO of our company felt that any advisor that had a computer was simply playing games!
What a difference two and a half decades have made! I find that I am more committed to financial planning than ever before, but now I view it as a holistic process rather than a simple plan.
